No nap for you today

Poor little girl.  You didn't get a nap today because of a miscommunication between Grammy, Papa and Mom.  When I saw you after work, you had fallen asleep in your car chair.  You were grumpy for a little while, then you turned back into your happy self.

You have a baby doll that you've taken to calling Mila Sue.  You put her to bed in a laundry basket, with a big towel as her blanky.  You do this over and over.

Tonight, you were looking for a book to read.  You where so tired you didn't get up, but said "green".  Mom and I looked all over then you said "spider", which led us to the green caterpillar on the "Very Hungry Caterpillar" book.

You know your colors pretty well, sometimes you forget though.  But never pink, you love pink.

Phone Call

On Thursday I had to work past your bed time.  I called your mom and asked to speak with you, not really expected that you would say anything but "no" when mom put the phone near your.  Instead you said, "Hi Daddy. I love you."

You've figured out mice eat cheese.  Mom looked in your toy barn and you had put some of the cat's toy mice in there with your toy cheese.

You are a toddler now

Today, your babysitters both had sick kids, so Mom needed me to come home and watch after you while she taught art.

First you and I played in the backyard. You love to spoon sand into your bucket in the sand box. We went over to the pond and you sat on a rock and talked to the fishes. I held you over the fence and you said hi to the "woof woof".

I thought I'd maybe take you to see the people at my office, but you are very shy. Last night when some of my friends came over you tried to borrow your head into my shoulder. After a while you warmed up, but we didn't have that kind of time today. So... we went to the park. You and I went on the swings. You like me to go in the swing next to you. Next you climbed up the playground to the slide and came down. You wanted to climb back up the slide, so we took off your shoes and with your little monkey toes you went right back up. You eventually climbed up to the top of the playground and came down the big slide all by yourself.

You walk everywhere. Sometimes we can get you to hold our hands.

Love,

Your Dad

You have a favorite song

You love the song "Oh Susanna!".  You have a toy that plays the tune, and mom sang along.  Now you go around and sing "Oh Sus!".

You are sick today

You picked up a cold from me, I think. I can hear you coughing at night. It makes me want to go and pick you up and hold you. :(

You really really like the "outside". On Saturday we were getting ready to go out. You suddenly said "bye bye" and headed for the door, which was open. I just let you go where you wanted and you where playing with the bushes. Never mind it was 48 degrees outside.

Temper Temper!

You can already throw a temper tantrum. Mom tried to get you out of your favorite toy at the Forshey's, and where very upset. She put you down to get something else and you started off right back to the toy.

More stories

Lillian took 3 steps today by herself. She took 2 while we visited Bill and Jackie for Thanksgiving.

She woke twice last night just crying. I went in an and held her and told her it was ok.

It's D&D tonight, so 7 of my friends where over here. Lillian was freaked out at first, but as we sat around the table eating dinner, she sat on a high stool next to me and and grinned at everyone.

Some stories

Today Lillian was over at Zeke and Jessie's. While in a baby swing she leaned forward (my guess is to look at the ground while she was swinging) and slipped right out of the straps. Jessie reports she did a flip in the air and landed on her tummy. She cried for 15 seconds and that was all.

Also as we watched "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" at Jeremiah and Elisa's house Lillian sat in Laura's lap and watch with us. A few times as we all laughed, Lillian joined in.

One morning in early September I had just woken up and walked into the living room. Laura and Lillian were sitting on the couch, and Laura said "Here comes da-da". Lillian said "Da-Da, yeah". She says da-da when you prompt her, but has quite caught on that she should call me that.

Elisa reports that when she's telling Juda "No", Lillian looks up to see what she's doing wrong.

When Laura's parents visited in August Lillian started to push books away when you were reading something to her she didn't like. Sometime in late August I realized I could get her to pick the next book. I would hold up two books and get her to choose one. She will stare at each book in turn, deeply considering her choice, then wave a hand at one and make a noise. This week when I've started singing her "Twinkle Twinkle" as I do every night after I'm done reading books, she's stopped me by reaching over the the table besides the chair that has all the books, looking for some other book.

When reading to her, I know it's getting close to time to put her in bed when she gives a BIG SIGH.
